
A major disaster occurred at the Na Uyana monastery located in the Pansiyagama area of Sri Lanka. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information, on September 24 at around 9:00 PM local time, a cable car accident occurred resulting in the death of seven Buddhist monks. This was reported by the Daily Mirror publication.
It was revealed that among those who died in the accident were citizens of Russia, Romania, and India. The bodies of the victims were taken to the Gokarella and Kurunegala hospitals.
At the time of the incident, a total of 13 monks were returning from a religious ceremony at the monastery. Two monks jumped off the cable car and sustained minor injuries, while four others were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
According to initial information from official sources, the disaster was caused by the breaking of the main cable holding the cable car. Currently, the Pansiyagama police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
This event once again highlighted the importance of safety and technical control issues in the area. Relevant authorities are taking necessary measures to determine the causes of the incident and to prevent such situations in the future.
