Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko proposed the construction of a second nuclear power plant on the country's territory during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This proposal was reflected in the transcript of the meeting published on the Kremlin's official website. According to Lukashenko, the new NPP could be built in the eastern region of Belarus.
His main goal is to supply electricity to the territories of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Donetsk, which are controlled by Russia. Additionally, Lukashenko mentioned that the "Rosatom" company has prepared the necessary conditions to implement the project.
He emphasized that he does not want to discuss financial matters publicly. Russian leader Vladimir Putin did not directly oppose this proposal, stating that if there are consumers who will receive electricity and pay the established tariff, it is not a problem.
This initiative is said to be aimed at further developing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector. The construction and efficient use of nuclear power plants will contribute to strengthening energy security in the region.
Moreover, this project is expected to have a positive impact on the development of the local economy and infrastructure. Agreements between Belarus and Russia may open new opportunities in the energy sector in the future.
