The Intermediate People's Court of Wenzhou, China, sentenced 11 individuals belonging to the prestigious Min family in Kokang city, Myanmar, to death. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
They are accused of large-scale fraud through an illegal gambling organization and involvement in murder cases. This family and their associates laundered over 1.4 billion dollars in illegal funds.
Additionally, to maintain discipline within their criminal group, they eliminated "disobedient employees." According to the court ruling, five defendants were given a two-year suspended death sentence.
Under Chinese law, such a sentence is often commuted to life imprisonment. Furthermore, 12 other individuals were sentenced to imprisonment ranging from five to twenty-four years.
Analysts believe this incident demonstrates the Chinese government's strict measures against illegal online gambling and transnational fraud. These sentences are viewed as part of a policy aimed at reducing the activities of criminal groups within the country.
