According to CNN, YouTube has agreed to settle a lawsuit with former US President Donald Trump by paying a large sum. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Trump was blocked on several social media platforms, including YouTube, following the events of January 6, 2021. According to reports, YouTube will allocate $22 million to the Trust for the National Mall, a non-profit organization supported by Trump.
This organization financially supports the restoration of the National Mall in Washington and the construction of a special hall in the White House area. Additionally, YouTube will pay $2.5 million to other claimants, including the American Conservative Union.
It should be noted that YouTube was the last of the three major social networks sued by Trump. Earlier, Meta Corporation settled the dispute in January by paying $25 million, and Twitter reached a $10 million settlement in February.
Although social networks blocked Trump's accounts citing that some of his posts could incite violence, technology companies are now showing a relatively warmer attitude towards him and his supporters. In particular, after Elon Musk purchased Twitter, Trump's account was reinstated.
Subsequently, Meta and YouTube made similar decisions. Recently, YouTube announced it would reactivate some accounts that were blocked for spreading misinformation, emphasizing its respectful approach towards conservative views.
These changes are leading to a softening of political relations on social media platforms.
