Famous Polish mountaineer Anjey Bargiyel has become the first in history to climb to the summit of Everest without any supplemental oxygen and successfully ski down. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Guardian publication provided this information. Bargiyel emphasized that the ascent to the summit was very difficult and mentioned that he had not previously stayed at such altitude for a long time.
According to him, the dream of skiing down Everest without supplemental oxygen had matured over many years. The mountaineer spent about 16 hours crossing the "death zone" located above 8000 meters.
Due to the thin air in this area, people receive only about one-third of the oxygen compared to sea level. As a result, brain damage, pulmonary edema, or even death can occur.
Bargiyel previously attempted to conquer Everest in 2019 and 2022 but was unsuccessful. Additionally, he made history in 2018 as the first person to ski down K2, the world's second highest mountain located in Pakistan.
According to the Himalayan database, more than 6000 people have climbed the world's highest peak so far. Of these, only about 200 have succeeded in ascending without supplemental oxygen.
Some have tried to ski down, but a full descent without oxygen had never been achieved before. Anjey Bargiyel has now reached this historic milestone.
