The United States Space Research Agency NASA aims to achieve a new historic milestone for humanity within the next decade. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The agency plans to build a settlement on the Moon's surface where people can live permanently by 2035. This was announced by acting NASA head Sean Duffy at the International Astronautical Congress held in Sydney, Australia.
As Duffy emphasized, the project is not limited to scientific research alone. On the Moon, not only a research center but also modern infrastructure for sustainable living will be established.
The new settlement will be powered by nuclear energy, astronauts will be regularly stationed there, and local materials obtained from the Moon's surface will be extensively used in construction. According to NASA's plan, in February 2026, four astronauts will travel to the Moon for the first time under the "Artemis II" program.
Although the landing will not take place during the flight, the main goal is to prepare for the next stages and study the possibilities of long-term living on the Moon. Experts believe that building a permanent settlement on the Moon will be an important foundation for sending humans to Mars.
This is because the infrastructure created on the Moon will serve to test humanity's ability to live in space for extended periods. NASA representatives evaluate this idea not as a dream but as a concrete plan to be implemented.
This initiative is considered an important step aimed at developing human civilization beyond Earth's orbit.
