A London court found 47-year-old Chinese citizen Chjimin Syan guilty of illegally acquiring $6.7 billion worth of bitcoins. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
She attempted to use these funds to purchase expensive real estate in the United Kingdom. This information was provided by the official website of Scotland Yard.
During the investigation, more than 61,000 bitcoins were confiscated from the woman, marking the largest seizure in the history of cryptocurrencies. According to the investigation results, Syan deceived over 128,000 Chinese citizens between 2014 and 2017, including entrepreneurs, pensioners, bank employees, and members of the judicial system, using various methods.
She converted the large sums she obtained into bitcoins and moved to the United Kingdom using forged documents. There, she aimed to legalize the funds by purchasing expensive housing.
According to The Sun newspaper, the police found Syan’s personal diary, in which she wrote that she considered herself a “reborn goddess” anointed by the Dalai Lama and dreamed of establishing an independent state called “Liberland,” where she would rule as a queen. The woman is currently in custody awaiting trial.
This case not only highlights financial fraud but also once again demonstrates the extensive scale at which crimes can be committed through cryptocurrencies.
