According to the World Health Organization (WHO), since the beginning of 2025, cases of chikungunya fever have significantly increased worldwide. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
More than 445 thousand cases have been recorded this year, and 155 people have died. WHO experts emphasize that the risk of further global spread of the chikungunya virus is high.
So far, this disease has been identified in at least 40 countries. In 2025, the fever has spread mostly in the Americas.
Here, over 100 thousand confirmed and more than 228 thousand estimated cases have been recorded, with 115 deaths caused by the disease. In Europe, nearly 56 thousand cases have been registered, with 40 resulting in death.
In the Southeast Asia region, more than 3 thousand confirmed and over 21 thousand estimated cases have been identified. Chikungunya fever is a viral disease characterized by fever, joint and muscle pain, rash, and fatigue.
This disease is transmitted by mosquitoes of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus species. These mosquitoes can also spread the dengue fever virus.
Therefore, it is important to take preventive measures against mosquitoes to avoid the disease.
