A new and historic step has been taken in Chinese medicine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Doctors at Xijing Hospital in Shaanxi Province successfully transplanted a genetically modified pig liver into a human body for the first time. This was reported by China Daily and Global Times.
The operation was performed on a patient who was clinically declared brain dead. The medical team removed the patient's own liver and replaced it with the genetically modified pig liver.
According to scientists, the transplanted organ was fully supplied with human blood, began producing bile, and successfully performed its physiological functions. The most important aspect is that the patient's immune system did not reject the pig liver, meaning no hyperacute rejection occurred.
This situation is rare in medical history. During the operation, vital signs — blood circulation, liver function, and metabolism — remained stable.
For ten days after the procedure, the patient was kept under special medical supervision, and all results were documented by a medical commission. Experts believe this practice is a major breakthrough in the field of xenotransplantation and may reduce the future need for human organs.
At the same time, new opportunities open up to save the lives of many patients suffering from liver failure. The success of Chinese scientists not only demonstrates national scientific potential but also marks a new stage in medicine.
According to specialists, in the future, it may be possible to transplant other internal organs, such as kidneys, hearts, or lungs, from animals to humans. Thus, the operation performed at Xijing Hospital has opened a new chapter in medical history and has given great hope for scientific research aimed at saving human lives.
