The Wuchuan toll station located in Anhui province, China, is considered the largest checkpoint in the country. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On the last day of the 8-day holiday in connection with the recent National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, thousands of vehicles were stuck in long traffic jams in this area. Although there are 36 lanes in both directions, travelers were unable to move for several hours.
The heaviest congestion was observed at the intersection of the G40 (Shanghai–Xi'an) and G42 (Shanghai–Chengdu) national highways. The Wuchuan station received approximately 860,000 vehicles over the course of a week, with an average daily traffic volume reaching 120,000, which is three times higher than usual.
As a result, a journey that normally takes 10 hours extended to 16 hours. More than 60 evacuation and rescue vehicles were deployed to restore traffic flow.
Additionally, 20 duty brigades were stationed along the highway. According to the Ministry of Transport, a total of 2.43 billion interregional trips were made across the country during the holiday period.
This situation arose due to the road infrastructure and the large number of travelers. Currently, necessary measures are being taken to normalize traffic and reduce congestion.
