On April 17, 2025, a shooting took place at Florida State University (FSU) in Florida. Two people were killed, and at least six others were injured.
According to police, the suspect is 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, a university student and the son of a local sheriff. He used a former service weapon belonging to his mother during the shooting.
The incident occurred in front of the student union building during lunchtime. Students sought shelter and hid in the bowling alley and freight elevator inside the building.
Phoenix Ikner was shot because he did not comply with police orders and is currently in the hospital. All the injured are being treated at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
President Donald Trump commented on the incident, stating that it is "a terrible situation," but emphasized that there is no intention to pass new gun laws. He said, "It's not the gun, it's the person who shoots."
University administration canceled classes and all events until the end of the week following the incident.
