According to AFP agency citing sources from both countries, armed clashes took place at the border. Dozens of people died as a result of this conflict, but independent verification of exact numbers is currently not possible.
According to Zabihullah Mujahid, a representative of the Taliban movement that took power in Kabul, 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the clashes. Islamabad, however, denied this information.
The Taliban statement noted that Afghan forces temporarily seized 20 border posts of the neighboring country. Mujahid called this action a retaliatory measure and reported that nine Afghan soldiers were also killed.
At the same time, Pakistani media, citing security sources, reported that there were many casualties on the Afghan side as well. According to their information, Pakistani troops took control of 19 Afghan border posts.
This was also confirmed by the AFP agency. Yesterday, the conflict on the border between the two countries intensified again.
There were intense shootings between the Taliban and the Pakistani army. Two days before these events, Kabul accused Islamabad of carrying out airstrikes on Afghan territory.
On October 9, after explosions occurred in Kabul and southeastern regions, the Afghan Ministry of Defense accused Pakistan of violating the country's sovereignty. Pakistan denied these accusations and called on Kabul to stop providing shelter to Pakistani Taliban within its territory.
The Pakistani government accuses armed groups linked to the Taliban of killing hundreds of Pakistani soldiers since 2021. According to official information, Pakistani Taliban members receive training in Afghanistan and support their Afghan counterparts.
According to the dpa agency, Pakistan's intelligence stated that the strikes carried out by Islamabad were targeted at Taliban leader Noor Wali Mehsud. Observers believe that this conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan could mark a new dangerous phase not only militarily but also politically.
