Trump defended Netanyahu from court charges
US President Donald Trump called for the pardon of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on corruption and abuse of power charges in court. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

He announced this in a speech at the Knesset on Monday. According to the country's laws, if the court finds Netanyahu guilty, only President Isaac Herzog can grant a pardon.

In his statement, Trump asked the president to pardon Netanyahu, emphasizing his leadership during wartime and considering the minor charges insignificant. Trump's statement sparked major debates in Israel and internationally, as Netanyahu is accused of bribery, fraud, and abuse of power.

The case against him was opened in 2019. According to investigation data, Netanyahu received expensive gifts from billionaire Arnon Milchan in exchange for commercial assistance, and also granted privileges for positive coverage through the Walla news site.

Prosecutors emphasize that through this, he gained an economic benefit worth 475 thousand euros. A similar agreement was also made with the "Yedioth Ahronoth" publication.

Netanyahu denies all charges, calling them political pressure and a trap. The trial is ongoing, but he has delayed the court proceedings several times under the pretext of state affairs.

Additionally, the International Criminal Court is conducting an investigation against Netanyahu for war crimes and crimes against humanity. On November 21, 2024, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for him for crimes committed in the Gaza Strip.

The charges state that the Israeli leadership deliberately deprived Gaza residents of water, medicine, food, and electricity supplies. Nevertheless, Netanyahu visited Hungary in April 2025, which was regarded as an action contrary to international law.

Donald Trump is known as a consistent defender of Israel. His administration actively supported Tel Aviv in military operations in Gaza and political pressure against Iran.

Even after the International Criminal Court opened a case against Netanyahu, the Trump administration imposed sanctions against this international body. This event was criticized worldwide as a US action against human rights.

Thus, Trump's statement is seen not only as political protection of Netanyahu but may also lead to a further hardening of the US position in the Middle East.
