The first half marathon was held in Beijing, the capital of China, where for the first time in history, humans competed against robots. According to The Global Times, among the participating robots, a humanoid robot known as Tiyen Kung Ultra took first place.
Nearly 12,000 people and 20 robots participated in the marathon. Tiyen Kung Ultra, created by the National Robotics Center, completed the course in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Meanwhile, the best time among men was 1 hour and 2 minutes, while among women it was 1 hour and 11 minutes.
Interestingly, robots were also given the opportunity to rest on the course, just like humans. When people stopped to rest and drink water, the robots' batteries were changed, CNN reports.
The publication notes that Tiyen Kung Ultra finished the marathon without showing signs of fatigue. At the end of the competition, many marathon participants gathered around the robot-winner to take pictures for memories.
