A study conducted by RIA Novosti dedicated to World Bread Day compared the prices of white bread in countries around the world. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the results, the average price of a loaf of bread is 138 rubles, approximately 21 thousand soms. The most expensive bread is sold in the African country of Djibouti, where the price of bread is about 134 thousand soms.
Prices are high in this country due to its heavy dependence on food imports, especially wheat. Other countries where bread is sold at high prices include Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Monaco, and the Bahamas.
Additionally, countries such as Congo, the Central African Republic, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and South Africa are also included in the top 10 list of the most expensive bread. Conversely, countries where bread prices are the cheapest due to government subsidies have also been identified.
In this list, Algeria ranks first, with the price of bread around 2,100 soms. Following are Tunisia, Eswatini, Afghanistan, Libya, Chad, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.
Uzbekistan is among the top ten countries in terms of affordability. Russia ranks 35th, while Belarus is in 42nd place.
According to analysts, these significant differences in bread prices stem from countries' economic policies, agricultural capabilities, and dependence on food imports. Thus, the most expensive bread in the world is sold in Djibouti, and the cheapest in Algeria.
Uzbekistan maintains its position among the countries with affordable bread prices.
