After the name of Jalalabad city in Kyrgyzstan was changed to Manas, active discussions began around this topic. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, stated in an interview with the 24.kg publication that Manas city may become the capital in the future. According to him, in 2026 Manas city will receive the status of the third largest city at the republican level after Bishkek and Osh.
Tashiev assessed the decision to rename Jalalabad to Manas as strategically correct and emphasized that this region has become one of the promising development centers of the republic. According to him, Manas can become the capital, but it is not easy.
It is necessary to prepare the city as a capital and increase the spiritual and social readiness of the population. Becoming the capital requires great responsibility, for which modern infrastructure and significant investment will be needed.
At the same time, large-scale construction works and infrastructure reforms are being carried out in the city. According to Tashiev, Manas should become one of the most developed and modern cities in Kyrgyzstan.
For reference, on September 17, President Sadyr Japarov signed the law on renaming Jalalabad city to Manas. This law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on September 10.
The official statement emphasized that the purpose of this decision is to strengthen the national ideology and honor the city with the name of the national hero Manas. Jalalabad region borders three regions of Uzbekistan and covers an area of 64.6 square kilometers.
The city is home to more than 186 thousand residents, among whom Uzbeks also constitute a significant part. This news has aroused great interest among the Kyrgyz public.
While some citizens appreciate this as a symbol of national pride, others approach the idea of relocating the capital with caution.
