In South Wales, United Kingdom, two swimmers came close to disaster due to incorrect advice from artificial intelligence. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Futurism publication, they obtained information about the tide times through ChatGPT, but the calculation was incorrect. The swimmers, who planned to return to the shore from Salli Island, asked the neural network about low and high tide times before swimming.
However, the artificial intelligence provided them with an incorrect schedule. One of the swimmers said: "I checked the low tide time through ChatGPT and made a big mistake.
It was written as 9:30 there. We thought we would make it back, but when we returned, the situation was completely different.
This was a big lesson for us." Fortunately, Gordon Hedfield, the owner of a seaside restaurant, came to their aid. Seeing the tide rising rapidly, he called the swimmers back using a megaphone.
According to Hedfield, they were already halfway, and the water was rising quickly. If the swimmers had continued forward, the outcome could have been tragic.
According to information, this area is famous for having some of the strongest wave movements in the world, with wave heights reaching up to 15 meters. Currents move at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour, turning a safe place into a dangerous area in a short time.
This incident once again proved that artificial intelligence cannot fully replace human conscious attention and experience. The attention and caution of an experienced person should always come first.
