Russian courts have imposed the first fine for advertising on the Instagram social network. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Evgeniy Tutushkin, a lawyer and blogger living in Krasnodar, was fined 30,000 rubles for advertising a hotel. The court found the post extremist and classified it as prohibited content in Russia.
The lawyer emphasized that he did not intend to advertise in the post, but rather expressed his personal opinion and provided information about the hotel where he stayed to his subscribers. Since he liked the hotel location, he recommended it to users and shared a booking link.
Additionally, Tutushkin stated that he published the post before the law banning the placement of unacceptable advertising came into effect. It is reported that from September 1, a law prohibiting the distribution of advertising materials deemed unacceptable on foreign or international organization websites came into force.
This case indicates that new rules are being introduced regarding advertising activities on social networks in Russia.
