Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy dedicated his first day in prison to physical exercise and writing a book. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He was sentenced to five years in prison for illegal financing of his 2007 election campaign. This was announced by Sarkozy's lawyer Michel Darru at La Santé prison to BFMTV channel.
According to the lawyer, the former president is held in a small 9-square-meter cell where there is constant noise. He also had a brief meeting with his wife in the afternoon.
The lawyer emphasized that the first day in prison was tough, but Sarkozy endured this trial with patience. There are no comforts there, and this place is not "Club Med."
It should be recalled that at the end of September, the Paris court found Nicolas Sarkozy guilty of financing his election campaign with funds from the Libyan government. Sarkozy was not only imprisoned for five years but also fined 100,000 euros and deprived of the right to hold public office for five years.
This event attracted significant attention in French politics and sparked widespread discussions in the country. Sarkozy's imprisonment was a serious blow to his political career.
At the same time, the court's verdict demonstrated the firmness of French laws and the justice system. Sarkozy's family and supporters continue to defend him.
His life in prison and future political activities are being closely watched by the public.
