The problem of overweight and obesity among children is rapidly increasing worldwide. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In a report presented by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization on October 16 — World Food Day, this dangerous trend was once again highlighted. According to the report, in 2024, 670 million people worldwide are suffering from hunger.
At the same time, 391 million children are overweight, of whom 188 million are classified as severely obese. In other words, one in five children is overweight, and one in ten faces obesity.
FAO analysts emphasize that this problem is particularly serious in Latin America, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Americas. For example, 58 percent of children in Chile and about half of those in the South Pacific islands face the issue of overweight.
Experts believe that poor nutrition, a sedentary lifestyle, and dependence on processed foods are the main causes of this situation. This poses a significant threat to children's health.
FAO and the World Health Organization stress the necessity of implementing comprehensive nationwide programs to promote a healthy lifestyle, teach proper nutrition, and encourage children to engage in sports. Scientists believe that obesity negatively affects not only physical but also mental health.
Therefore, combating this problem should be accepted as a global priority.
