This work is considered the artist's largest monochrome canvas. The "California" painting was created in California during Iv Klein's only trip to the United States in 1961.
Measuring over four meters in length, this piece is regarded as the largest monochrome painting executed in blue. Since 2005, "California" has been kept in a private collection in New York.
During this period, specifically from 2005 to 2008, the painting was loaned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and it was during this time that it was last exhibited to the public. Iv Klein's work holds significant importance within contemporary art, with its uniqueness and place in art history highly valued.
