The special representative of the Russian president for economic cooperation with foreign countries and the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, in his appearance on CNN, assessed the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as approaching a diplomatic solution. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Dmitriev, Zelenskiy's statements about stopping the war at the front line are seen as a serious change in political rhetoric in recent months. He noted that while the Ukrainian leader previously demanded the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the entire territory, he is now adopting a more thoughtful position.
In Dmitriev's opinion, Russia, the USA, and Ukraine are approaching a diplomatic solution, and Zelenskiy's statement about the front line is a significant and the first real step. At the same time, he reiterated Moscow's demands regarding security guarantees and emphasized the necessity to consider the Kremlin's interests to stop the war.
When asked about US President Donald Trump's decision to cancel the planned meeting with Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Dmitriev said the meeting would still take place, just at a later time. According to him, it is important not to stop dialogue with Russia but to continue it.
Trump also stated in his speeches that talks with Putin are useful but have not yielded sufficient results. Dmitriev announced that discussions are ongoing about continuing prisoner exchanges between the USA and Russia.
This process, unlike usual diplomatic contacts, is considered an important step toward restoring trust between the two countries. However, before Dmitriev's visit, Moscow rejected the proposal to immediately freeze fighting along the front line in Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described this idea as contrary to the agreements reached in Alaska and emphasized that such a decision could strengthen territories under the control of the Nazi regime. Analysts believe Zelenskiy's recent statement has also sparked interest in Western political circles.
His words about resolving the situation at the front through diplomatic means are seen as a possible sign of softening in Ukraine's position. However, no clear practical steps have yet been seen from the Russian side.
Dmitriev's view that there can be no peace without cooperation indicates the Kremlin's intention to participate in this process only on its own terms. Political observers interpret Zelenskiy's words as a stage of pressure in the discourse of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
According to them, Zelenskiy's reflections may not be aimed at peace but could be a diplomatic maneuver before obtaining a new aid package from Western countries.
