A major error has occurred in the UK prison system. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In the past year, more than 260 prisoners have been unlawfully released. This information was provided by the “Sky News” channel based on government statistics.
Between March 2024 and March 2025, 233 people were mistakenly released from prisons, and another 29 prisoners were released from courtrooms due to errors. This figure is 128 percent higher compared to last year.
This situation came to public attention because of the case of Ethiopian migrant Hadush Kebatu. Although he was convicted of a sexual offense, he was mistakenly released during the deportation process and subsequently escaped.
It was later revealed that he was in London. Following Kebatu’s actions against a 14-year-old girl and a woman, protests began in the UK.
Citizens are demanding that the government stop the practice of housing migrants in hotels. Currently, approximately over 32,000 illegal migrants are living in 210 hotels across the country.
According to “The Times,” this system costs British taxpayers about 4 billion pounds annually. The government has promised to completely abolish this practice by 2029.
Experts believe that the error in the prison system not only reflects bureaucratic shortcomings but also highlights serious problems in the country’s immigration policy.
