Police raid in Rio de Janeiro: 132 people died
On October 28, 2023, a police operation carried out in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, attracted the attention not only of the country but also of the entire world. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

According to official reports, this operation was directed against a criminal gang locally known as the "Red Command." The Rio state government described this raid as the largest security operation in history.

Preliminary information indicates that 64 people died on the first day alone, including four police officers. By October 30, the number of casualties had reached 132.

Local media reported that among the deceased there might be ordinary citizens as well. According to some witnesses, the bodies of the victims were piled up in an empty area on the outskirts of the city.

Most of them were found naked, which may have been done by relatives to facilitate identification. Additionally, dozens of bodies were reportedly found in a nearby forest area close to the scene.

More than 2,500 police officers were involved in the operation, moving in armored vehicles and using two helicopters for aerial surveillance. During the operation, 113 people were arrested, 118 weapons and nearly one ton of narcotics were seized.

Although the state governor Claudio Castro considered the raid a success, there are opposing opinions among the public on this matter. Some citizens are dissatisfied with the level of police force used and the disregard for the lives of innocent people.

This incident in Rio once again demonstrated how intense the conflicts between criminals and the police have become in the city. Many are calling this event one of the biggest tragedies in the city's history.

At the same time, this event reminds Latin American countries of the urgent need to seriously reconsider their security policies and the consequences of using force.
