French police have arrested five more suspects in connection with the theft of a $102 million treasure from the Apollo Gallery at the Louvre Museum. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This information was reported by the Reuters news agency. According to Paris prosecutor Lore Bekkou, the suspects were detained during raids conducted on Wednesday evening in Paris and its northern suburbs.
It is said that one of them was identified through DNA traces left at the crime scene. However, so far, the involvement of all suspects in the crime has not been fully confirmed.
During the investigation, the phones and other items used by them are being analyzed. These items have allowed investigators to examine the suspects' encrypted messages.
Additionally, a special police unit against the illegal trafficking of cultural valuables is conducting searches for stolen artifacts on the black market. According to the prosecutor, such valuable items can sometimes be used for money laundering or organized crime activities.
It is recalled that on the morning of October 19, four hooded individuals broke into the Apollo Gallery during museum hours, stole valuable artifacts, and escaped. This incident revealed serious shortcomings in the museum's security system and caused a major uproar worldwide.
