The hurricane led to destruction, floods, and power outages in Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba. Dozens of people died as a result of the event, and thousands of residents were left homeless.
The greatest damage was recorded in Jamaica. According to the country's Prime Minister Andrew Holness, a large part of the island's houses, hospitals, and public buildings were destroyed.
"More than 80 percent of the roofs of houses were blown off, and electricity was completely cut off," said the Prime Minister. The hurricane later moved towards Haiti and Cuba.
In Haiti, at least 20 people, including children, died due to heavy rain and floods. In Cuba, wind speeds reached 185 kilometers per hour, causing serious damage in the southeastern regions.
King Charles of Great Britain expressed deep sorrow over this tragedy in Jamaica. The United States plans to send a special team to provide assistance to the areas affected by the hurricane.
According to experts, the cleanup and restoration work in the affected areas may take several months.
