Google and Epic Games have reached an agreement regarding the commission issue for developers on the Android platform. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This agreement requires court approval. Google stated that it is ready to reduce its standard commission rate from 20 percent to 9 percent depending on the type of transaction.
However, these updated rates do not include an additional 5 percent commission for using Google's internal payment system. According to Samir Samat, Google’s President of Android, if this agreement is approved, it will bring an end to the court proceedings.
Additionally, the company plans to simplify the installation of third-party stores on devices running the Android system. These changes will apply not only in the United States but also in other countries.
Epic Games stated that it is not against Google’s requirement to use its own payment system exclusively. However, the company emphasizes that other payment methods should also be available in apps and that users should be offered lower prices through these alternatives.
It is worth recalling that Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Google in 2020. This lawsuit was aimed against anti-competitive monopoly practices on the Android platform, with the company expressing dissatisfaction with Google’s commission policy.
