After winning the election, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani delivered a speech in front of his supporters. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In his speech, he expressed gratitude to all groups that supported his victory, including Uzbek nurses. He also extended his thanks to Mexican grandmothers, Yemeni merchants, Senegalese taxi drivers, and other national minority representatives living in the city.
“This city is yours, this democracy is yours,” said Mamdani. In his new political program, he proposed a number of social initiatives.
Among them, he suggested establishing free childcare services for children from six weeks to five years old and opening state-subsidized grocery stores in every district of the city. Additionally, Mamdani's plans include making city buses free and freezing rent prices for one million tenants.
He plans to direct these funds to social projects by imposing higher taxes on the city's wealthiest segment and increasing corporate tax rates. However, critics consider these plans difficult and unrealistic to implement.
