Gabriele Nunsiati, a correspondent for Italy's Nova news agency, was dismissed after asking a question about Gaza at a European Commission press conference. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The incident took place during a briefing in Brussels on October 13. Journalist Nunsiati raised the issue of compensation for the reconstruction of Gaza after the war, reminding European Commission officials that the European Union is demanding compensation from Russia for Ukraine.
He also asked, “Does this principle apply to Israel as well?” However, European Commission representative Paola Pigno refused to answer this question.
A few days later, Member of the European Parliament Gaetano Pedulla announced the journalist's dismissal. Although Nunsiati confirmed this news to Anadolu Agency, he did not wish to disclose further details.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has previously faced criticism for openly supporting Israel. This incident has sparked new debates about press freedom in Europe.
Issues concerning press freedom and the independent work of journalists have once again come to the forefront.
