The return flight of three astronauts from China's Shenzhou-20 mission to Earth has been delayed. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to local media reports, the delay was caused by a possible damage to the return capsule. The capsule may have collided with space debris, so the flight control center decided to conduct additional inspections to ensure safety.
During the inspections, signs of damage were found on the surface of the capsule. The heat shield and control systems are undergoing detailed diagnostics.
The astronauts — Chen Dun, Chen Junjuy, and Wang Si — are currently continuing their activities on the Tiangong orbital station. Officials have stated that there is no danger to their lives or health.
Space debris is considered one of the main problems in orbit. It consists of remnants of broken devices, rocket parts, or metal fragments measuring millimeters.
Because this debris moves at tremendous speeds, it can cause serious damage to the return capsule's protective shield or disable its systems. Engineers are currently keeping the situation fully under control.
Once the technical diagnostics are completed, the astronauts' return time to Earth will be scheduled. Additional information about the Shenzhou-20 mission is expected to be announced in the coming days.
