Initially causing severe damage in the Philippines, this natural disaster claimed at least 114 lives and flooded several towns. According to the Vietnamese government, over 260,000 military personnel have been mobilized in a state of emergency due to the typhoon.
Wind speeds reached 149 km/h in coastal areas. In Quy Nhon and Gia Lai provinces, strong winds tore off roofs of houses, uprooted trees, and broke hotel windows.
The weather service warned of risks of floods and landslides in several provinces. It was also reported that the typhoon could generate waves up to 8 meters high at sea.
In the Philippines, the typhoon caused especially severe damage to Cebu Island. At least 114 people died, and tens of thousands were relocated to safe areas.
Many homes and vehicles were submerged. The country’s President Ferdinand Marcos declared a state of emergency and initiated relief efforts.
In Vietnam, evacuation efforts are ongoing. The government and military are delivering necessary food, drinking water, and other supplies to the population.
Experts emphasize that rising sea levels could cause serious damage to fish farms and coastal areas. Therefore, precautionary measures continue to be taken.
