The Etimesgut military airport located in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, will be converted into a VIP airport. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This project is specially designed for the country's leaders and foreign delegations, and according to the Sözcü publication, it will be implemented in accordance with modern international standards. According to the project, the runway will be extended up to 3000 meters and its width will be increased to 60 meters.
Two large aprons capable of accommodating 50 aircraft simultaneously are planned to be constructed at the airport. Additionally, an Honor Lounge and a 2400 square meter State Guest House will be established here.
These facilities will primarily serve visits by presidents, prime ministers, and high-level delegations. The airport management will be handed over to the Turkish Airports Authority, but ownership rights will remain with the General Staff.
The reconstruction work is expected to be completed by July 2026. This date coincides with the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Türkkuşu Glider School.
This school was founded last century by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Historically, the Etimesgut airport has been one of the main bases of the Turkish Air Force.
Now, this facility is gaining strategic importance once again. The new VIP airport is expected to strengthen Turkey's diplomatic potential and further develop Ankara as an international political center.
