The political situation in the Middle East is escalating again. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
An arrest warrant issued by the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several other high-ranking officials has been sharply criticized by Israel. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar described this decision as politically motivated and called it another "PR spectacle" by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In his statement, Saar emphasized that the Turkish judicial system has drifted away from justice and has become a tool for exerting pressure on political opponents. He noted that the rights of many individuals in Turkey, including journalists, mayors, and judges, are restricted.
He also cited the arrest of the Istanbul mayor for opposing the president as an example, stating that this situation demonstrates the lack of impartiality in Turkey's political system. On November 7, the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office issued arrest warrants against 37 Israeli officials, including Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
They are accused of "genocide and crimes against humanity" due to actions in the Gaza Strip. Some are held responsible for violations committed in Palestinian territories.
Additionally, the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Netanyahu remains in effect. This document states that the Israeli Prime Minister is suspected of "crimes against humanity and war crimes" during the period from October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024.
The Israeli side firmly rejects these accusations and calls the International Criminal Court's decisions "politicized and unjust." According to Israeli officials, these attempts aim to isolate the country internationally.
Observers say this conflict may further strain relations between Turkey and Israel. So far, Turkish officials have not responded to these criticisms.
