
Currently, the Syrian government has announced that it has joined the international coalition fighting against the Islamic State. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Reports were disseminated based on Syrian mass media. Additionally, the U.S. State Department has suspended previously imposed sanctions on this Middle Eastern country for 180 days.
According to Bloomberg, Washington's decision is seen as a measure aimed at strengthening cooperation with the new government in Syria. Furthermore, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara stated that the country is seeking international assistance to rebuild from the devastation caused by the civil war.
U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack emphasized that the U.S. government considers supporting Syria important to reduce Iranian influence and prevent the reformation of the Islamic State. Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that special operations had been conducted against terrorist groups affiliated with the Islamic State in several provinces.
It was emphasized that these operations were carried out within the framework of the fight against terrorism.
