According to information, on the evening of November 10, unknown individuals illegally entered the museum building and stole statues from the ancient Roman period along with other valuable artifacts. During the incident, the criminals broke several glass shelves.
Representatives of the Damascus Internal Security Directorate stated that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the criminals and recover the stolen items. According to the publication, a total of six ancient statues were stolen from the museum.
The Syrian National Museum was established in 1936 and is considered one of the largest cultural centers in the Arab world. During the civil war, in 2012, the museum's activities were suspended.
Later, the museum partially reopened in 2018, and in January 2025, it fully resumed its operations. The museum holds great historical and cultural significance, and its security remains a pressing issue.
