The corruption scandal surrounding "Energoatom" in Ukraine has sharply changed the country's political agenda. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On November 12, President Volodymyr Zelensky firmly stated in his address that Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrinchuk would not remain in their positions. He called this decision a "matter of trust" and asked the Prime Minister to accept the resignations of both ministers.
Additionally, the president called on the Verkhovna Rada deputies to support this decision. Zelensky emphasized that clear answers must be given regarding the corruption allegations.
The president also announced that he would sign a decision to impose sanctions on the two individuals mentioned in the "Energoatom" scandal. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko soon revealed the identities of these individuals.
It became known that they are Timur Mindich, founder of the "Kvartal 95" studio, and Oleksandr Sukerman, who has financial influence. They left the country before the investigation.
Energy Minister Svitlana Hrinchuk announced her resignation, emphasizing that she had not committed any violations during her tenure. The Prime Minister confirmed the news of Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko's resignation and submitted a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada to dismiss them from their positions.
The vote on this matter was scheduled for November 18. According to information from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), a system was formed at "Energoatom" demanding 10–15 percent of contract value from contractors as kickbacks.
Pressure was applied to carry out illegal payments. On November 10, searches were conducted at Halushchenko's office and the "Energoatom" company.
On November 11, the supervisory board of "Energoatom" held a meeting to discuss the situation. Following this, Prime Minister Svyrydenko announced the decision to terminate the board's powers ahead of schedule.
This situation once again proved that the Ukrainian government is pursuing a firm and systematic policy in the fight against corruption. The decisions made by President Zelensky are regarded as an important step aimed at restoring trust in the country.
