Russian cybercriminal arrested in Thailand
Thai law enforcement agencies have arrested a Russian citizen suspected of major cybercrimes at the request of the United States. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

This incident has become the focus of international discussions. According to official information, the 35-year-old Russian is suspected of organizing cyberattacks on critical systems in the US and European countries.

The Thai government has initiated the process of extraditing him to the US. According to Yegor Ivanov, a representative of the Russian Consulate General in Phuket, Moscow is trying to obtain permission to provide consular assistance to the detained citizen.

Although the identity of the suspect has not yet been disclosed, local and international media have made various speculations on the matter. According to representatives of the Thai cyber police, the Russian individual was arrested on November 6 during a special operation conducted on Phuket Island in cooperation with FBI agents.

He entered the country on October 30 and was staying at a hotel. During the investigation, several laptops, smartphones, and cryptocurrency wallets were seized from him.

According to investigation materials, cryptocurrency accounts belonging to the suspect have been frozen with funds exceeding 14 million baht (approximately 432 thousand US dollars). These funds are believed to be proceeds from illegal cybercriminal activities.

According to media reports, this person may be one of the Russians wanted by the FBI. He is mentioned as Aleksey Lukashev, born in the Murmansk region and associated with the 26165 military unit of the Russian intelligence service, holding the rank of senior lieutenant.

The hacker group linked to this military unit, known as "Fancy Bear" or "APT28," has been repeatedly mentioned in international cybercrimes. This group is suspected of interfering in the 2016 US presidential election, cyberattacks on Democratic Party servers, and other major crimes.

This incident in Thailand marks a new phase in international cybersecurity issues. The investigation is ongoing, and much attention is focused on how diplomatic relations between the US, Thailand, and Russia will develop.
