Belgium opens its first embassy in Tashkent

Belgium announced plans to expand its diplomatic activities in the Central Asian region and revealed that it will open its first embassy in Tashkent. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision was made as part of comprehensive reforms in Belgium's foreign policy, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported. The ministry emphasized that Central Asia is a region of strategic importance.
In particular, the development of the Trans-Caspian route, known as the "new Silk Road," is increasing interest in this area. For this reason, following the active investments attracted to the region by other countries, Belgium is also striving to strengthen its position in order not to remain outside global processes.
In addition to Tashkent, Belgium plans to open new diplomatic missions in Tirana, Albania; Windhoek, Namibia; and Muscat, Oman. Furthermore, a representation will be established in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to appoint a permanent representative to the African Union.
At the same time, Belgium has decided to close eight missions. Among them are embassies in Sarajevo, Conakry, Bamako, and Kuwait, a diplomatic office in Mozambique, as well as consulates in Havana, Rio de Janeiro, and Guangzhou.
