The Russian government has announced that it will only recognize driving licenses issued in countries where Russian is recognized as an official language. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This statement was made by Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia. According to him, if Russian is not recognized as an official language in a country, citizens of that country will be required to pass an exam to obtain a driving license in Russia.
Volodin emphasized that knowledge of the Russian language is the main condition for recognizing foreign driving licenses. Additionally, according to Russian traffic laws, foreign driving licenses are valid only if they have a notarized translation into Russian or if the inscriptions on the license are directly in Russian.
It is worth noting that driving licenses issued in Uzbekistan are translated into Russian and English. This creates certain conveniences for Uzbek drivers.
