Russian scientific circles have resumed discussions on the issue of restoring the Aral Sea. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This time, a project is being proposed to divert water from Siberian rivers to the territories of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. According to Viktor Danilov-Danilyan, director of the Water Problems Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the project was reviewed at the “Inland Water Resources” scientific council meeting held in October.
According to experts, it is possible to divert part of the Siberian rivers to the dried-up Aral Sea basin located on the border of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. This initiative is aimed at reducing water scarcity and restoring ecological balance in the Central Asian region.
Additionally, the idea of diverting water from the Pechora and Severnaya Dvina rivers through the Volga basin to the Priazovye region is also being proposed. Viktor Danilov-Danilyan emphasized that these projects serve to study the formation of Russia’s water resource policies and the possibilities for their redistribution.
These issues are viewed in Russia as a major initiative aimed at ensuring ecological sustainability and resolving regional water problems. This project further highlights the importance of regional cooperation and the rational use of water resources.
