The corruption scandal in Ukraine's energy sector has led to significant changes in the country's political life. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In particular, the controversies surrounding "Energoatom" prompted former President Petro Poroshenko to call for the government's resignation. Poroshenko emphasized that the government's anti-corruption measures were weak and insufficient, urging the current Prime Minister and his team to step down.
He stated that the problem would not be resolved by dismissing only a few ministers. In a video address on November 17, Poroshenko described the government as "completely mired in corruption" and said that its entire composition should resign.
He highlighted that at least five high-ranking officials were named in the corruption scandal and characterized the government's actions as mere window dressing. The former president proposed forming a "national salvation government" to resolve the political crisis.
According to him, the new coalition should unite various parties and consist of reputable experts. Especially considering the complex conditions at the front, it is necessary to prevent political instability.
Poroshenko's initiative was supported by the "Golos" faction in parliament, but the votes in parliament are insufficient. At least 226 deputies' consent is required to officially discuss a vote of no confidence in the government.
So far, the likelihood of this initiative being implemented is low. Regarding the corruption scandal, Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) have disclosed the names of several high-ranking officials.
Among them, President Zelensky's longtime associate Timur Mindich and finance sector representative Oleksandr Sukerman were mentioned as the main figures in the scandal. It was reported that Mindich left the country before the investigation began.
On November 12, President Zelensky demanded the dismissal of Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrinchuk. They resigned immediately.
Additionally, Zelensky issued a decree to impose sanctions against Mindich and Sukerman. The future development of the political situation in Ukraine remains uncertain.
The corruption scandal may accelerate political processes and lead to new changes. The public is closely watching how this scandal will affect the country's political life.
