The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a plan to vaccinate over 40,000 children against various infectious diseases in the Gaza Strip during a short-term ceasefire. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Al Arabiya, during the first eight days of the vaccination campaign that began on November 9, more than 10,000 children under the age of three received their first dose. According to WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, by November 22, children are planned to be vaccinated against measles, tetanus, rubella, diphtheria, whooping cough, pertussis, hepatitis B, tuberculosis, rotavirus, poliomyelitis, and pneumonia.
This initiative is being carried out in cooperation with UNICEF, UNRWA, and the Gaza Ministry of Health. The next vaccination phases are scheduled for December and January.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized that the ceasefire has enabled international organizations to strengthen medical aid in Gaza and restore the damaged healthcare infrastructure. Additionally, it was reported that on November 17, the UN Security Council approved the US plan regarding Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, ongoing military actions have resulted in the deaths of over 69,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children.
