A severe landslide occurred on November 21 in Central Java province, Indonesia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to official data, at least 30 people have died and another 40 are considered missing as a result of this natural disaster caused by heavy rains. This information was disseminated by “Reuters” based on statements from Abdul Muhari, a representative of the country's disaster mitigation agency.
The landslide damaged several areas in the city of Chilakap and Banjarnagara district. Abdul Muhari emphasized that dozens of homes were seriously damaged, and more than 900 residents have been evacuated to safe locations.
In some places, the shifting of the earth's layer caused buildings to be partially or completely destroyed. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, but the process is facing several challenges.
Debris from the landslide, water runoff, and expected further rainfall are complicating the rescue efforts. Abdul Muhari noted the high risk of new landslides and stated that all work is being carried out with caution.
At least 700 rescuers, including police and military personnel, are participating in the search operations. This process is expected to continue until next week.
The rainy season in Indonesia began in September and, according to meteorologists' forecasts, will last until April next year. This may increase the risk of floods and heavy rainfall in many parts of the country.
