NATO has started large-scale military exercises in the Mediterranean Sea. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Organized by the Alliance, these exercises are called "Neptune Strike" and are being held near the coasts of Italy. The exercises hold strategic importance for NATO and are conducted to ensure security in the region and respond to increasing geopolitical tensions.
According to information, the British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales is participating in the military exercises. It carries 26 US F-35 fighter jets on board.
Military personnel from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Poland, Turkey, and about 10 other nations are participating in the exercises. During the drills, NATO members are practicing how to act in the event of a possible attack on the eastern flank.
Additionally, the protection of important sea routes that account for 30 percent of the world's oil flow is also being discussed. According to Alexis Grinkevich, commander of NATO's Joint Forces Command Europe, the alliance must be prepared by 2027 for potential conflicts that may arise with Russia and China.
He emphasized that due to the increase in incidents related to airspace violations in recent years among NATO countries, such exercises have become highly relevant. For example, on September 10, 2025, Polish military officials reported that 21 remotely controlled drones violated the country's air border.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk blamed Russia for this incident. Estonia also reported airspace violations by three drones this month and held Russia responsible.
Moscow denies all accusations.
