Zohron Mamdani, recently elected mayor of New York City, met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the "New York Post," the meeting took place in a warm and constructive atmosphere, contrary to expectations. This meeting was particularly significant because previously both politicians had sharply criticized each other.
According to BBC reports, President Trump presented himself sincerely and emphasized that the White House is ready to cooperate with the new city leader. "We will help him," Trump said.
"After getting acquainted with Mamdani's views, I realized that we share similar perspectives on many issues. We have a common goal: we want to achieve success for our beloved city," he added.
Zohron Mamdani expressed appreciation for the president's openness to dialogue and readiness to cooperate. "I am pleased that during the meeting we discussed not our differences but our common goals, such as serving the people of New York," he said.
Mamdani, a representative of the Democratic Party who identifies as a democratic socialist, was considered an unexpected winner by many. Before the elections, Trump opposed Mamdani, warning that his election could negatively affect federal funding.
Additionally, Trump called Mamdani a "communist," while Mamdani criticized Trump as a "despot" and "fascist." Nevertheless, their first meeting was calmer than expected and carried a spirit of readiness for cooperation.
This dialogue provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss their shared goals aimed at serving the city and its residents.
