Scientific conclusions previously proposed by scientists about the gradual separation of the interior part of the African continent have been confirmed once again. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to research by British geologists, this process could fundamentally change the overall geographical appearance of the continent in the future and lead to the formation of a new ocean in its center. Scientists from Keele University have observed the separation process occurring between the African and Arabian plates through changes in the magnetic field.
They have determined that this process is deepening from northeast to south and continues along with earthquakes. The increase in seismic activity indicates that geological changes in this region are accelerating.
Researchers emphasize that these changes will not occur in the near future, but the complete completion of the process will require millions of years. Initial forecasts suggest that within approximately 5–10 million years, Africa could split into two large parts.
On one side, the region including Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Ghana, and Namibia will remain, while on the other side, a new geological region is expected to form, including most of Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Ethiopia. According to scientists, this process will not have a significant impact on human life, but it will be a major change in geological history and could determine the future appearance of our planet.
