A major scandal has erupted in the judicial system of Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Three former judges of the Bishkek city court and one prosecutor have been detained on suspicion of illegally mitigating the sentence of a person convicted of a serious crime. This was officially announced by the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the investigation, judges Saniya Branchayeva, Janil Mambetali, Qaysin Abakirov, and prosecutor Dastan M. were involved in reducing the sentence of criminal Qumarbek Abdirov in 2016.
Abdirov was found guilty of attempting to kill a 21-year-old girl and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. However, according to the investigation's conclusion, these officials, through a lawyer, engaged in a corrupt agreement and unlawfully eased his sentence in violation of legal requirements.
As a result, Abdirov was released in 2018 under amnesty. However, the consequences of this decision were severe.
In September 2025, Abdirov was detained on suspicion of raping and killing 17-year-old Oysuluv Mukasheva. This incident caused widespread public outrage in the country.
President Sadir Japarov even ordered to consider reinstating the death penalty. During the investigation, Abdirov and his relatives detailed how they exploited the judges' corruption scheme.
The lawyer was also detained on suspicion of bribery mediation. The judges' council granted permission to initiate a criminal case.
These judges had previously been dismissed from their positions due to allegations of involvement in corruption. During interrogation, Abdirov admitted to being guilty of raping and killing several women.
This case is a serious test for Kyrgyzstan's law enforcement system and once again highlighted the urgent need for judicial and legal reforms in the country.
