The European Parliament recently adopted a resolution titled "The Role of the European Union in Achieving Just and Sustainable Peace in Ukraine." This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The document was supported by 401 deputies. The deputies called on the European Union (EU) and its member states to take a leading role in the peace process in Ukraine.
The resolution noted Russia's lack of commitment to peace and its continued attacks on civilian infrastructure. At the same time, the United States' "ambiguous policy" towards Ukraine was criticized for hindering the achievement of peace.
The deputies emphasized that sustainable peace must be based on the principles of international law and Ukraine's territorial integrity. According to them, peace can be achieved not by yielding to the aggressor, but by firmly supporting Ukraine.
The European Parliament put forward five main demands for achieving peace. They are as follows: 1.
Russian troops must be completely withdrawn from Ukraine and internationally recognized territories. The European Union stated that it does not recognize temporarily occupied territories.
2. Russia must assume the obligation to fully compensate for the material and moral damage caused to Ukraine.
3. Accountability for crimes of aggression and war crimes must be ensured through international courts and special tribunals.
4. Within the framework of the agreement, captured military personnel, all unlawfully detained civilians, and abducted children must be returned.
5. Sanctions imposed against Russia will not be lifted until the peace agreement is fully implemented.
At the same time, the European Parliament expressed support for providing Ukraine with a "reparations loan" from Russia's frozen assets. It was emphasized that these funds should be delivered to Ukraine as soon as possible.
