
Uzbekistan presented environmental reforms and new approaches to environmental impact assessment at the 13th meeting of the Espoo Convention held in Geneva. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At this meeting, the delegation of our country was led by Gayrat Mahamedov, Director of the State Environmental Expertise Center. During the event, Mahamedov provided information about the digitization of environmental processes, updated forms of environmental impact assessment (EIA) and strategic environmental assessment (SEA) procedures, as well as developments aimed at expanding public participation.
Participants at the meeting discussed experience sharing and improving the effectiveness of environmental assessments in the fields of energy, regional development, climate change, and biodiversity conservation. They also considered issues related to monitoring compliance with the convention’s requirements, strengthening environmental cooperation among Central Asian countries, and applying digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the environmental sector.
These initiatives are expected to contribute to ensuring environmental sustainability.
