
The legendary American boxer George Foreman's gold medal from the 1968 Mexico Olympics has been put up for sale at the "Lelands" auction house. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The auction organization announced this on its official page. The listing of this medal for auction has sparked great interest among sports enthusiasts and collectors.
The medal holds historical significance as Foreman's first achievement in boxing during his youth. In 1968, at the age of 19, George Foreman defeated Soviet boxer Jonas Chepulis by technical knockout in the +81 kg weight category to win his first Olympic gold medal.
The starting price for the medal at the auction was set at $2,500, and currently, its price has exceeded $6,486. The "Lelands" auction house, known for selling sports memorabilia, has been operating since 1985 and has extensive experience in auctioning valuable items related to sports history.
George Foreman is famous not only as an Olympic champion but also as a former heavyweight champion who held the WBC, WBA, and IBF titles. He fought 81 professional bouts, winning 76 of them.
Sixty-eight of these victories ended by knockout. Foreman turned professional in 1969 and initially retired in 1977.
However, he returned to the ring in 1987 and concluded his sports career in 1997 at the age of 48. Today, his achievements are valued not only in sports but also as a historical legacy.
